Oh WOW! Did I hit the pause button a few times through that, or what?

This lil' ol' planet of ours really is a pretty place from out there. Not surprising that the odd passing aliens like to call in occasionally.

I wonder, is the video footage speeded up or does the ISS really travel that fast? Is it on a fixed orbit, or can it be varied to track over different areas?

On each and every pass or orbit the Earth below is also moving so each track is off just a little for it's last pass. I hope I said that right John. The ISS is at a altitude between 245 and 255 miles traveling around 17,000 to 17, 500+mph. I use two different web site to see where the ISS is. the First on with give you altitude and speed in the bottom box section. The second site allows you to zoom in of the part of the world so you know exactly where the ISS is. I hope this helps John. wc

And here's NASA's guide to when you can see the station pass you overhead:

I've seen the station pass over me several times thanks to this site.

That is a neat video. I like to try to figure out what part of Earth the video shows.

Many years ago I used one of those apps to see when the ISS was passing overhead. I also found out when the Shuttle was going to pass overhead. Went outside and saw the ISS, then around half an hour later saw the Shuttle passing overhead trying to chase down the ISS. Just a couple of pin points of light zooming across the sky but still purty neat.
