Aurora's LightningStrike VTOL X-Plane
DARPA Selects Aurora to Build VTOL X-Plane
DARPA Selects Aurora to Build VTOL X-Plane Technology Demonstrator YouTube Video of Aurora https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lylp...ature=youtu.be The aircraft design features a Rolls-Royce AE 1107C turboshaft engine that would power three Honeywell generators, and 24 ducted fans distributed on both the wings and canards. The aircraft’s electric distributed propulsion (EDP) system would consist of highly integrated, distributed ducted fans that, combined with the synchronous electric drive system, would enable the design’s potentially revolutionary hover efficiency and high-speed forward flight. wc |

Thanks for posting this, Waddie. It is an elegant-looking machine (although it also is somewhat reminiscent of a canard version of the Handley Page HP. 42).
I guess we have come a way since the Pogo. Don I love the Pogo. It is one model on my list of mush do models. Might have to place it higher up on that list. What would your best recommendation of a paper model of this aircraft? Thanks Don.

You scared me, WC, but that's a matter of age. Back in my youth, Aurora was one of the important companies that made plastic models, and I thought the firm went belly up long ago.

I also first thought of the old Aurora plastic models (still have some in the basement) when I saw the subject line.
I don't know of any paper models of the XYF-1 and XFV-1, Waddie, but perhaps some others do. They seem like the sort of thing that Aaron Murphy or Bruno would design. Don |

More VTOL tilt motors and wings will be coming as drones. Even tail seaters like the Pogo can now be controlled as long as the pilot is not on board. Drones are making it all possible.

Thanks, Murph and Robert. I THOUGHT there were FG models, but couldn't find them. I am glad to know that these two aircraft are well represented.
Has anyone built the two FG models? If so, how well do they go together? How is the fit of the parts? Don |
