Interesting.

But I wonder where he gets the "needle" fitting from?

If it's what I think it is, it is the needle insert for blowing up balls and/or etc. that you would use along with a tire pump. Anything that need to be inflated via a round valve insert. But that's my guess. I'm sure you can find them at a bicycle shop or any place that sell bicycle supplies. Check at your local hardware store. That's where I'm going. wc

A Ball Fill Needle is in the accessory kit that comes with most Air Compressors.
(I have a few)
And you can usually buy small kits separately

The Ball Fill Needles are usually found in the Air Tools and accessories area (at the store).
And they can be found in the Sports equipment area.

The wire and ball, inside the tip of the glue gun, must be important?
I wonder what for?
I'd like to know before I adapt a Glue Gun, just in case.

It's a check valve to control the flow of molten glue

From google patent:

"melted glue is forced through hole 61 in nozzle 62 by forcing the ball 64 from its seat. When pressure on trigger 40 is released, the spring 66 forces the ball 64 onto the nozzle seat, thus stopping the flow of melted glue from the chamber through the nozzle 62"

so without the check valve (spring and ball) the glue will continue to seep through and out of the gun!
good to know.

And because the tip is not heated, it will cool the glue.
Another reason why you want to stop the flow of glue into the tip.

I'll bet the lengthened tip (ball fill nozzle) has an issue with clogging.

...
LOL
I just decided to read some of the comments below the youtube video.
duh
Not only is there an explanation of the spring and ball check valve
but also comments about why the gun doesn't work any more!
LOL

Raja, Dave - interesting.

I was thinking that the ball would not be built in if it do not have some sort of a role... Now it makes sense!

Thanks guys!

Don't most guns have a tip that is removable??......... seems like it be easier to mod the tip and keep all those really necessary parts in there and working.........

Thats what I was thinking.
And then I saw that patent diagram, which looks like it might have a threaded tip.
I haven't looked at any of my own glueguns yet,
but I bet there must be ones with removable tips.

Maybe they even make tips that are extended?
