have you changed glues, or are you still using the hot glue technique? The leading edges and control surfaces look much straighter now, so I am assuming you are reinforcing them possibly?

I am still using hot glue exclusively. Instead of overlapping edges i am butting them up. The biggest difference is once the model is complete I take a hot iron to all surfaces. it is done just like pressing a shirt. It makes a huge difference. I love how this one turned out.

reinforcing with a thicker material would prevent the need to hot iron it at all. Plus it makes for a more stable piece of art...

Thanks for all the replies! The dr pepper plane is gone so I just had to have another one :D
I wanted to try to have a shiny aluminum finish. The diet pepsi is the closest I could find. I have to say, the shiny aluminum is by far the most unforgiving can to date. Every dent, ding, scratch and smudge shows up. Very very challenging. |

Diet Pepsi cans are by far my favorite to work with, but you do indeed have to be careful with the can surfaces. When building with these cans, I typically don't use any cans that have so much as a minor blemish or ding. TO get rid of glue residue, you can use nail polish remover sparingly. Here's an F-100 Super I built out of those wonderful cans:

Are you still making the cutters??
I love your can cutter. Are you still making them? Just started to work with cans but I'm looking at cutting and joining sheets. this would speed things up

Amazingly build model. Just thinking of building stuff using can, has giving me a grim nightmare of a bloody fingers.
Yet JLo WIP show a great build, neat and clean. Keep building, sir. :D Maybe a Space Shuttle can be added into your great collection :D cheers |

Complete noobie, but building with aluminum cans has to be fun! The airplanes look great. Love the F4U Corsair!
Any hints on building those crazy gull wings? I will have to post some pictures of my 'attempts' at this aluminum art form. |
