Stick and Tissue XP-67 Moonbat
Hello All,
It's been a while since I posted. Had eye surgery 4 months ago and working on 1/144 WW1 birds is a bit much for it still. Not wanting to strain it I've been working on bigger models that don't require the level of detail paper and plastic demand. Eye is getting better all the time but gets blurry again off and on. Anyway back on topic. I built a few kit planes and got a kick in the arse from the muse. A while back I wanted to design a paper model of the XP-67 Moonbat but Will beat me to it. So I decided to make a stick and tissue one :D I found a 3 view with so many cross sections it practically designed itself...... or so I thought :P Now before anyone points out that there is a rubber powered stick and tissue Moonbat plan out there I found it after being 3/4 the way through the body design :P I was disgusted but the design method was so different from mine I pressed on. I looked for plans before and never found a thing till I started my own :P For those who are familliar with balsa models there's not a whole lot I can say that the pix can't say for me. With that being said on with the pix :D G1 |

More pix
I think I'll have the formers all one piece for the final plans. The long formers were a pain when assembling the other side :P G1 |

More pix. The stringers were not pre-planned. I added em as I went and the "sanding saw" made it so easy.

One more shot of it pieced together. I'll have more pix soon. Spent all day on landing gear and sealing the frames for tissue. I',ve been pondering weather or not to make the LG removable for flight or just glue it in? Not looking forward to tissuing it in some places :P Canopy and spinners will need to be molded.
After I finish up the design and get it all documented I'll be sending it to Janx for a re-draw. How many want the plans when done? G1 |
