Catch them young

I did a little project on my son's elementry school, I showed them a lot of my models ,what skills it takes to make them, how you can get free models on the internet, and together with the art teacher we came up with a project to design your own papermodel. To boil it down to one subject we showed the kids some pictures of Fritz Lang's Metropolis city, this is what the kids produced...
I 'm gettting complaints from other parents that they had to buy inkt-cardridges for the second time this week...:D

Good show Billy.

When my daughter's friends come over and see my models the first thing they want to know is if they can build one. Kids love to build things. Of course this irritates my daughter "they came over to hang out with me not you Daddy". I usually send them away with a couple printed two page freebees from FG.

Bravo, Billy! Wonderful to see kids excited and challenged like this. And I think you may have inspired the next generation of paper model designers!

Great model and a great subject.

Recently, Lil and I watched "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari," another classic early silent film. I was struck by how much the stage sets in those old silent film appeared to be huge paper models!

I tried to introduce some to my grade 4 teacher (when I was in grade 4), but her eyes glazed over when I mentioned sharp things and time.
Oh well, at least I got a few impressed looks when I made a *gasp* 3D fedora for the crummy scare crow we had to make.

Now, if you really want to get youth involvement in the hobby, volunteer as a BSA Merit Badge Counsellor for the Model Design and Building Merit Badge.

So Totally Cool...,

Yeah Billy,

Who wants a dad who steals your friends? Nice piece and it seems you've lit some creative fires in all the right places. I like the city of tomorrow creation...,
