Cool! They look like they have personality and not that afraid of people to me is it true?

Definitely have personality. You can get fairly close to a Kookaburra provided you don't move too quickly. Most people know them from their insane laughter territorial call - they call just before dawn which does not amuse many people.

Edit: Just now there was a strange banging noise from the deck - turned out to be a Kookaburra beating a legless lizard to death on the deck rail - the lizard was about 12cm long so I guess the Kookaburra was hoping it would break into bite (beak) sized pieces.
