You got a nice shot there Glen. Patience is a virtue.

What do you use in the feeder - just white sugar water?

Nice pic of the hummingbird, Glen. I like watching the antic of the hummingbirds around the feeders. Sometimes one will claim an feeders as its own and chase off all of the others.

After not having a hatchling last year, and with the momma owl not spending much time on the nest again this year, I was having my doubts as to whether we would have a baby owl again, but he came up to the hole last night and this morning. Unlike Barney from two years ago, who spent his day just sitting there watching my porch, this one looks everywhere, craning his neck to try to see around the tree trunk, looking up and down, just seeing what he can see. I hope he has good balance

I can't resist talking to the owls. Being neighborly and all. I do hope this one doesn't end up on my porch checking out the cat food. That was a bit much drama between Momma, baby and the feral cats

Thanks it is pretty easy to get a picture, since they come to the feeder so readily, but hard to get one flying or perched on a branch ..
yep just 4 part water 1 part sugar

Got back last night from the folks and there was now owlet at the hole. Not there this AM either, so I rechecked. According to the Missouri Department of Conservation, this little fellow should be leaving the nest the last week of May/first week of June. Checked my Barney photos from two years ago and it was 20190611 when he left the nest. Over the weekend we had a brief but very strong thunderstorm, so I was a tad worried. So, tonight I tried doing my pathetically poor imitation of a baby owl, and I got a response, but couldn't see from where. Eventually I heard it again, so moved closer and tried again. Momma started trying to intimidate me by flying to limbs just over my head. The closer I got to where I eventually spotted the wee owl, the lower the limb above my head. So I went back in for a few.

When I went back out, I started my search by looking for Momma. Once I spotted her, it wasn't too hard to spot the little one. Why it left the nest so early, I will never know, but I wish the little thing a good bit of luck. It will probably need it.
