Well, Sunday morning, I heard the juvenile 'oooo-op' sound and was surprised to see the momma owl in the neighbor's tree making the noise at the juvenile at the opening of the nest.
The last I saw either one. My guess is that Junior has left the nest. Late this year, but the goldfinches and purple finches are back. It is always a contest between the purple finches and the robins for a nest by my back patio. This year the robins won

Red Fox
Not a bird, but a red fox who prowled along the rail fence in our back garden a few minutes ago. The slightly fuzzy snapshot was taken through a dirty window and rain.
No unusual birds recently, just the usual daily red-headed, red-bellied, and downy woodpeckers, robins, starlings, grackles, house (and the occasional gold) finches, cat birds, mockingbirds, chickadees, tufted titmice, white-breasted nuthatches, blue jays, cardinals, mourning doves, and Carolina wrens. No unusual birds here, either. I have noticed more exoskeletal guys I haven't seen for a while. Last night walking sticks were on my porch. Been seeing a bunch of praying mantises and I saw a granddaddy long legs last week. I haven't seen one of them for years. And there are a whole lot of ant lion holes this year

Lot of walking sticks here also. Can't remember ever seeing one before in the wild. Bird life is rather thin this year. Guess with the wild fires and then flooding we had last year damaged a lot of habitat.

Though I'd get the thread up again in memory of Kevin WS who passed a year ago. I miss all the exotic birds from South Africa that he used to post. These are from a trip several years ago, but don't think I ever posted them.
The 1st 4 are from Estero Bay on the California Central Coast. The California Jay is at the Botanical Gardens in San Luis Obispo. |

Thank you Wayne, it is sad about Kevin WS. I wish he could try out some of my bird models too.
We have had some nice spring birds, the months of April and May are when I get almost all of my bird pictures for the whole year! This year is no exception, yesterday I brought my camera on a bike ride hoping for an Oriole and sure enough one was there where I saw him last time. Flying Coot, Eagle and Osprey, ridiculously beautiful wood duck, a Horned Grebe in passage and one of our VG swallows that nest at our house.

You really capture some nice bird photos.
Definitely not using your phone camera. That Oriole image is gorgeous, perfectly framed with the flowers of spring. |

Beautiful images, Glen.
Our Memorial Day count: Carolina Wren (first bird of the day), white-breasted nuthatch, cardinals, bluebirds, cat birds, starlings, grackles, house finches, mourning doves, and red headed, downy, and red-bellied woodpeckers. The white-throated sparrows have headed back to Canada. The chickadees, tufted titmice, hairy woodpeckers, and sapsuckers must be out in the woods but didn't show face today. Don |
