for more than 30 years i have been in and out of model rocketry and at one time i was 9th in the nation (US) in points for competitions. now that i am older and have a son of my own i thought it was time to get him into good hobbies.

It is an excellent hobby, one I enjoyed for many years b.k. (before kids). Sadly,
I couldn't get the boys interested in that either. Well done dad!

Cool. Recently scratchbuilt a rocket I had as a kid (USS America from Centuri). I also scratchbuilt the USS Raven (also Centuri) but it did not fly well as I made it a bit too heavy. Perhaps too many coats of paint and I susbstituted mylar for the parachute material. Hopefully the USS America will fly better.

I love rockets! I have a starter launch system and a few simple rocket kits. Back in high school drafting class, I built a twin-engine transport with a glider about 20" long overall. The following year, I built a 5-foot tall twin-body running D engines and hung 2 custom F-15 gliders off it. I've built a couple of simple kits since then, but haven't flown since '86. I guess I just have too many hobbies to fit them all in.
