Arizona Eastern
Was heading to the store yesterday afternoon and saw the sun was pretty good so grabbed the camera. They had sat this GE Dash 8-40B out for me so took advantage of it. The side shot shows the Freeport McMoRan Copper and Gold Smelter up on the hill. My new house is basically on the hill across the tracks and Hwy 60 from it. A couple of trains a day go in there from the Clifton and Morenci areas.

Splendid shots.
And the first one with the smelter framed in the background is a classic! I am envious....

Thanks Kevin, when I get the chance will get more shots of their motive power. Since they're a former Southern Pacific branch line, think most of their equipment is ex-SP with maybe some UP mixed in.

These are excellent images, Wayne!
It's a good-looking locomotive. I am a part owner of that smelter, being the proud owner of 94 shares of Freeport McMoran Copper and Gold stock. Not enough to be financially significant, but enough to give me a passing interest in FMC operations (including the Grasberg mine in Papua, New Guinea, Indonesia, and now your back yard). I look forward to seeing more. Don |

Thanks Don, as the weather warms and there's more daylight will be getting more. Although I have eyeballed maybe trying some night shots of the smelter since it looks pretty cool (if you like big industrial plants) with all the lighting.

Try the night shots. And maybe also with a stationary loco - tripod and timed setting?
Tonight awaits!

Any locos they have there at night are usually pulled in behind the string of box cars and almost no lights there. See background of pic 3. Plus still not comfortable out here at night with all the critters that roam in the dark: crawling, 4 legs and 2 legged. Still much more at home in a dark alley.

3:10 to Yuma
Since this was about noon in Gila Bend heading towards Yuma figured that would be pretty close to when it gets there. A train load of empty containers heading back to the West Coast ports.

Lovely.
And I like the fact that you didn't fill the frame with the loco, so the setting can be seen.
