Moon Pictures
I thought some of you might be interested in this. I have been trying to teach myself how to take photographs of the moon, this has been going on for some time. I am beginning to show some improvement but still have a long way to go - there is some truth in teaching an old dog new tricks- it ain't easy. Lol

Nice!
I guess moon photography is a challenge every photographer (amateur or pro) takes up at one point in the life. It probably is the inherent fascination of humans with the Earth's companion. And you learn a lot when facing that challenge. Is not as easy as it may sound. It gets very interesting when you try get the most out of the camera and its features. You become creative to surpass those limitations. I've taken tons of moon pictures with a couple of different cameras, just for the fun of it. But I'm only happy with how three or four of those pictures have come out. It is always different, and some settings you use at one night may not work the same the following night. Please show us more of your photos!

I've taken moon shots with my 100-400mm lens....but they have always come out slightly soft and did not have any details in the craters like your shot has. I haven't tried any recent moon shots since I moved into town with all the light pollution.

A few more moon pictures
Here are a few more moon photographs including one that I am still working on. It needs a couple more shots before I can finish it.

That's really creative.
Most of my moon pics are rubbish. Lots of pics, but you get the keepers though. With the moon I often take a lot of pics - but no keepers from that night... I have been trying recently to get the different colours of the full moon. Got a lovely "peach moon" last month. Forgot full moon last month was on the 12th. My approach now is to try to keep the ISO down and use manual (as opposed to auto) focussing - the later improve sharpness a great deal, although the low light often means multiple attempts are an idea. Keep the pics coming, please...

The material of the moon is dark, and it is a sunlit body. Set the same exposure you would to photograph a sunlit black asphalt parking lot, and you will not be far wrong.

Color moon pictures
Kevin, here are a couple of color pictures I took. I don't take many in color because you have to shoot through the ground haze to get them and usually that makes them a little soft.
