To Re-Shoot or Move On

I picked up a model of Sputnik from Red Iron Models (Sputnik-1, Red Iron Models RIM24001 (2021)) which is the perfect scale and has great details and is in the perfect scale.

As I commonly do when airbrushing bare metal finishes, I primed the model with a layer of flat black before shooting an aluminum acrylic paint. I think that my mixture was too thin though, because on second inspection the finish has a decidedly darkened steel look.

I don't mind the finish, but I worry that it really should have a more brushed aluminum finish. What do you guys think? Keep it, or shoot another thicker layer?

If I keep it like this, I was going to finish the highlights and then seal with a semi-gloss coat.

Two thoughts:
1. I know I won't be happy until it looks like what I wanted it to look like.
2. I might look at it and decide, ya know, nobody ever models how a thing looks on the night side of its orbit, how about I become a trendsetter.

Looks a little like a Studio Ghibli Soot Sprite - which is no bad thing 😊

My thought is that it looks like H G Wells War of the Worlds
Enjoy,
