The first test of using pallets for decking was 2 years ago with a 200' staircase and landing decks:

Looking good! I have a source that gives pallets for free and I've had this idea of making something out of those. Now I know what. Just have to get permission first.

The trick is they cannot have ground contact. I used the 12x12x2 cement pads and cinder blocks.
