actually I thought it was just a casual question about building models
(from something other than paper...namely plastic),

not an ecological debate

have we not learned anything from our Zealot Forum debates?

anyone know where I can get a plastic cat and a paper sack?

I'm answering the question. I can't help it if the intro doesn't match the content. I have read through some of the responses and replied along those lines.

It like Guns, "Guns don't kill people, people kill people", guns it makes it easier though. Plastic isn't bad, plastic covers a wide range pf products. How we make plastic could be changed to make is more biodegradable. It is what we do with it that needs questioning. Making models out of plastic seems beneficial to me, it's educational and they can be recycled.
Interesting points. There is a guy who is taking ALL plastic and making railroad ties from them. They are impervious to insects and do not disintegrate in nature.

We throw far too much out. I guess in the last few months I have been soul searching for my new career path and looking at what is not only good for me but what can I do that is good for the world. I have been exploring much and it's tough to not jump on the 'oil' band wagon like a friend of mine who is comfortably making a six digit salary working on mechanical projects for oil exploration.

A friend of mine builds everything in styrene so my evangelizing paper modeling to him has been an uphill battle. lol :D

Ironically, to me, people who enjoy paper models are doing something enjoyably that has a small carbon footprint. I think it is admirable SteveO, that you wish to start a career with on an ethical basis. I don't really get the posts that just want to stifle peoples comments. It is just cynicism and fear. Mentioning the other forum is really non sequitur. Tree hugger comments are veiled insults. From what I remember about that other place it was the stifling of opinions that was the problem, not the expression of them. This forum rules. You can express yourself, choose to discuss or not, in a thread, and the moderators are on the ball.

if I needed to voice any insults I will state them in plain english.
...you will not have to read anything into my comments.

unless...theres cats nearby...then we must be careful what we say.

And ninja cats sneak up and stab you with their pointy little claws when you least expect it....

As far as the plastic/paper debate....I'll stay out of it since I like hugging plastic trees and wouldn't want to get hit in the head by a brick made from paper or feline matter.
