There is absolutely nothing wrong with plastic, as long as you have fun building!

Many of us work in both mediums, and combine them. A lot of my paper models have plastic parts or parts made from plastic materials (i.e., plastic tubing gun barrells) and most of my plastic models have paper parts- I almost don't paint cockpits anymore; I use paper inserts.

Most of the techniques for scratch building in styrene are directly applicable to paper modeling and vice versa. Tim Perry, who occasionally appears in these pages, is a maestro in both mediums, using much the same techniques: LCT Mk 4

It the model, not the medium. Paper is just one - though it's quick, cheap, easy to work, takes great graphics (let's hear it for the color printer!), is recylcable, and non-toxic (not even glue fumes if your using white or shop glues).

Keep building (and posting) in whatever medium you like - and if you can post the paper patterns you used we can build it in paper too.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with plastic, and your Firefly is superb.

A lot of the paper modelers have and still build in wood, resin and plastic. I for one prefer paper for the challenge and as Don pointed out paper modeling is very much like scratch building plastics. You would agree that scratch building is at the highest level of modeling.

I believe that one of the reasons paper models are gaining a wide acceptance is due to the availability of good models and the cost is low. Both of these factors make paper an excellent entry point for modeling.

Oh I forgot to mention I’m a member of IPMS both locally and nationally.

Speaking of plastic....While paging through this month's edition of Fine Scale Modeling I saw a re-release of an older kit "Rommel's Rod". This looks like a lot of fun and would be a great subject to convert to paper.

Wow, what a response!..
Thanks for the replies, the title was supposed to be a bit of a joke...but ah well. I am amazed at the skill and quality of the modelling on this site, and I agree that paper modelling is as if not more skillfull than other types. It is also more relaxing..(usually!).
to answer Major Davenport's question yes Serenity is lit up! feel free to check out the lighting it is displayed in the video section of my web page, along with more views of the build..(including interior shots!).
