Profile of Sopwith Triplane

Back when I was working as an Illustrator I had a request from a client to create this profile drawing of a Sopwith Triplane. This was about 15 years ago so I don't recall what he had planned for it and I don't even know if he used it.

I used Adobe Illustrator 5 or 7 as I recall and it was a fairly detailed drawing. I can tell you, if you really want to learn how an a/c looks externally, draw or paint it. It had about 100 layers, for those of you that know how Illustrator works. I created all the textures using the various tools in the software and learned a lot about creating shiny metal surfaces.

After this illustration I've never created another a/c profile.

Anyway, hope you enjoy.

SFX, that is a beautiful profile, also quite uncommon colours. I can well imagine how satisfied you must have felt finishing it. And I appreciate what you say about if you want learn what an aircraft really looks like, try to make a profile or a drawing of it!

I enjoyed watching this (and please see your PM box for a suggestion). - Leif

Thanks Leif, as far as the colors go that was at the clients request. They always seemed too intense but the customer is usually right. At the time, it was a job, do it and get to the next one..

I'll check my PM,
