3 Different Triplanes

In another time I was a serious Flight Simmer... I loved just flying something interesting and would meet other simmers in the flying world and join up for some formation flying. Several times we would fly to "sim world airshows" in our antique e planes.

Once I met up with 2 other flyers, each of us flying a different WW1 Triplane.

You'll probably never see this in the real world;-)

Of course I was flying the Sopwith Tripe...........

Hey.... that is soooo much fun, i love Flight Sims and i used to use them a lot. I did full flights, like U.K to Dubai via Amsterdam.. Lots of hours, but some of the best fun i have ever had. Landing after all the flight time always gave me a big buzz. Love the picture you posted, very cooool

Looks like confession time SFX. I used to paint flight simulator aircraft. I even had painting tutorials that had over 100,000 viewers that was hosted by AVSim or was it flightsim, can't recall. :o. I got a commission to do one for a large travel company in the UK but the git never paid up. lol. looks like we all had lives before paper doesn't it. I should say different lives.

My favourite flights were Chicago Meigs to O'hare - short skip and a jump and the old Kai Tak Airport - Checkerboard landing in Hong Kong. I live there for 3 years and it has to be one of the most exciting landing ever. Not the same with the new airport.

Thanks for sharing SFX. Brought back some memories.

Cheers
Jim

Hey Peter. As much as I tried them, I always got bored with the long flights. Hence my puddle jumper flights.

Cheers

Chris, I think this is a great suggestion, the biggest problem is finding enough reference material to build a decent card model.

But since you've asked, there is a very good book called :TRIPLANES by Peter Bowers and Ernest R. McDowell, Motorbooks International, 160 pages that covers nearly 200 triplane/multiplane designs from the beginnings of flight through about the 1930's when the design concept went the way of the dinosaur.

I've tried to pick the more famous ones that I think are somewhat historic in nature. Some are well known, most are not.

For example the Roe IV-AVRO Triplane.

The Paulhan which looks kind of like a bird.

Der Tandum Dreideker, the first Swiss-built design.

Some WWI designs include the famous Sopwith Triplane or the Fokker Dr-1.

The Schutte-Lanz Dr1 was a very pretty design and I think it's the highest silver plane in the image I posted.

There was an Albatros D.V Dr1 model with 3 wings.

The British Osprey looked at first glance like the Sopwith Triplane

or the Curtiss S-6, a modified S-3.

The Hansa-Brandenburg CC Flying Boat was very unusual looking 3 winger.

There was also the Swedish Triplanet (no model number that I'm aware of)

Fighter/Bomber combinations include the-

ADE-C.VIII, 2 crew members for this larger design.

The Braemer Mk.II was a triplane bomber as were the Caproni Ca.40.-41 and -42, I think some of the Caproni are actually available on ecardmodels but I'm not sure.

I could add another 15-20 names to this list, but I'll stop for now.

Thanks for asking,
Swampfox
