Ambitious for a first project definitely but it looks like you're off to a great start!

Deep end indeed. At 1:72 it will be a monster but, the level of detail you can achieve at this scale is significant. I'll be following along

Wow! 1/72! Where you going to put that when you done? I guess you got a really big house. How's Auto CAD? You like it? I'm running Rhino, and alway wondering which is more user friendly.

The Yamato was 862.8 ft long.
1/72 scale equals 12 ft.
Where are you going to put it ?

Well, if a Japanese guy can build a 6meter (minifig scaled!) Lego Yamato in his living room, a 12foot model should be storable... Raises the question of how strong the frame structure has to be for a model that size!

So...... NYC Irishma. You going to print it out? Can you tell me what printer you going to print from, Epson? HP? ........? And what paper brand you going to print with? Please let me know when you get ready to print. I'm thinking maybe I should go buy some stocks.

But, really. Wow! 1/72! You going to print it or just building 3d model? Either way, it is a watcher for me. Can't wait for your update.

At the moment Its a no hope for building outside of the Computer, I am just doing it at the moment as a side doodle.... By the time its finally drafted things may be different and it may be a possibility but for now its a fun scribble...

of course just up the road in Ireland is this place:

Laser Cutting & Profiling - Laserform Profiling Systems Ltd, Drogheda

I love AutoCAD.. I was an XSteel/ Tekla Steel Draughtssman till this time last year and I love CAD..(You pay me to do this??? How much do you want to pay me?) but thats a thig of the past.

I got a job to keep me going till something recovers and I took the time to upskill with a 7 month full time course in AutoCAD and the above is the side result, I dont know Rhino but I have to say im thrilled with AutoCAD for my requirements, My Student version will end and at that point I will have to go to LT, if the pennies allow.

The above was a scan and trace of the Halinski 1:200 Yamato, I unfortuatelt have given up on that and recieved nice sharp and crisp plans in Anatomy Of THe Ship: Yamato....so back to the drawing desk.

As said its just a scribble so it wont lead too far really...I just think its better than posting a copy on the fridge with a magnet and hoping for a well done :
