chartered companies were laws into themselves, being allowed to recruit troops and rule colonies. Below are the flags used by a number of them though many other companies existed but simply flew the standard merchant flags of their respective country.

In the meantime I have been working on the masts and ratlines for the brig.

This time I needed "upper" ratlines and for the first time I needed crows nest and decided to go for this version. I might do the round "bucket" version too later, but for minis this one works very well. The size allows for 3x1" base minis. Not sure if it is too big for real version but one can print them at smaller scale if required. Looking at research pics, I wouldn't be surprised if the real ones are not too much smaller.

And here is a pic showing the full prototype ship with all I have right now.

Next I will work on the sails, esp the new square sails. I have to find the right balance between looking good and fitting on the page, but I think even the large ones will fit on one page. Hoping that my idea for attaching the square sails to the mast will work!

And when I have that I will redo it all for the final weathered build with full-detail-cut-out ratlines!

next update. finished the square sails for the prototype build. starting to look like a real ship now. and makes me a little bit excited

Need to work on some kinks with the attaching of the square sails to the mast (or rather the crows nest platform and extension bits). Also the jib sails are just placed. Need to adjust them a bit for the brig.

And then I will add weathering and redo this step for the final build.

Starting to see the light ... almost finished with the series. And then it's time to start prepping the Kickstarter and let the ships loose on the tabletop oceans

I like that you didn't stain the sails brown like some modelers get inclined to do. It would seem that sun bleaching and UV damage would be more likely than browning on the real deal.

I always create a weathering layer that will "brown" the sails so everyone can choose which way they want to go. I also add options for colors so even black "pirate" sails will be an option

But I agree, salt and sun will most likely render any sail white over time!
