LUT from Edu-Craft
I've got the Saturn LUT/MLP-Kit from this Designer via ebay in scale 1:96.
I mean it is a relativly bad print in pixel-graphic (diagonal lines are like a stair) like a blurred google-earth foto- is not so good... Who has practical expirience with the model? And who know a german manual? |

Michael, pixelated prints from Educraft? I am afraid you have been deceived by a swindler of some kind... You're sure it is an original?
The Edu-craft designs are usually very crisp and super detailed. This must be a cheap scan / printout of the set. Look at their site and the details the LUT has! I hope you didn't pay the full 65 dollars the original set cost... Can you show some pics of the print quality? As far as the manual, perhaps a email to educraft might help. Maybe they have it in PDF. You never know. |

Hmm.. I think it looks very good colourwise. There is some pixelation in the red frameworks, I can see that... Perhaps this 1/96 version is an enlarged version from the 1/144 one? I don't know... The pictures on the site look better.
I presume the manual is in English but without pictures? |

No Photos in the manual from the model only skizzes.
I also think it's a scaled 1:144... I have begin the building...there are also big differences in colors, if you glue the parts together...look for my photos.. he takes not back the kit (wriiten in ebay) but I will send him a email... |

Well, that's tragic. It really looks like it's a well made and thoroughly researched kit but probably only in the designed scale. The differences in colour are weird. Also probably due to the enlargement process.
Funny thing is, when you look at for example Lars Folmann's kits, they've been designed on a very large scale (3000+ pixels) and when printed, it gives a good quality in almost every scale. I guess this model has been very well designed but too small to scale up to 1/96, even though it's only 150% on a printer's scale. He might show the photos of the 1/144 version on his site because they look really good.. Pity. |

I had send an email to David and this is the answer:
Thank-you for your thoughts. They are very appreciated! I have similar thoughts, Michael, but for now, the kit is what it is. The technical aspects of the kits production have been stretched to their limits. Perhaps it would be more helpful to others to make note of these thoughts in the website for the future. The intent, though, is for the overall, finished presentation of the displayed models, and it is felt that the factors you touched on would be nominal once assembled. For example, even though this is the 1/70, a 1/144 was built for a customer in Germany and sent to him. He thought it was of "museum quality." I feel that this was because it was a finished model. How may I be of assistance? I would be open to your recommendations. I would like you to be as satisfied as would be possible at this point. Regardless, your thoughts are very important, although any fixes in the kit would not be forthcoming for quite some time. Best to You, David R. Maier |

That's a decent answer. And explains exactly what is "wrong". A good design but created in too small a size. It's really unfortunate. Luckily he acknowledges the problem. If I were you, I'd just make it and wait to see the final results. perhaps the overall look of the LUT will be masking a lot of the crudities. I do hope so! The colours look good and I think when made, the tower might be a real spectacle.
Good luck! |

I have the 3 kits in all scales, And I am very happy with the 1/144 and 1/70 scale versions but the 1/96 does suffer from some almost severe pixelation.
In all fairness it is only a direct scale up of the 1/144 just arranged on more accomodating pages, The idea is nice but operation is not so good. The 1/70 is a tidied up version with a lot more added detail and the image has been cleaned up, its definetly the jewel of the collection for anyone with a ridiculous amount of space. I love the collection and have enjoyed collecting them and the 1/144 Shuttle MLP, I think the quality of the MLP will allow for a better scale up than previous projects if someone is lucky enough to be able to do a 1/70 Hope that makes sense John |
