1/72 Vanguard SLV-4

Gang,

Here's my latest: a 1/72 Vanguard SLV-4 scaled up from the 1/96 model designed by Joy Cohn and Niels Jahn Knudsen. As usual, thanks to my ineptitude at rolling small cones -- David, Yogi, and PK, I honestly tried! -- I used plastic parts for the engine and modified an Estes rocket nose cone for the, um, nose cone. The small Vanguard 2 satellite (scale???) is made from a large craft store bead.

Comments welcome!

Nice metallic shine on that first stage, Les. Special paper?

(And about cone rolling: just practice a bit more. It'll get better.)

Nope. I masked off the black parts with Post-It Notes and painted it Testors Metallic Silver.

It certainly looks the part. You hit the right colour there. It doesn't look all silvery silver but more yellowish, tan, whatchamecallit. I like it.

Very nice build.

That said, we'll get you rolling paper nozzles, nose cones and payload fairings yet....
