just a thought - could it be done like exhaust cones (flipsided) going into one lager, longer cone
short cones coming out from the engines into a longer cone representing the exhaust cone - for colors, i don't know as orange seems a bit too "cold" and white is more like it
but as i said - just a thought

Exactly!

If you look very closely on the picture of my Redstone I built for my Liberty Bell 7 Liftoff diorama, I did exacctly that. I used an "inverted" yellow cone for the flame and it's surrounded by the polyfill "smoke". It's really hard to see, but some of the yellow pokes thru.

I'm playing with a similar concept for my 1/480th Saturn V's.
