The Space Shuttle is only a flying brick if you are trying to fly it with the same wing loading as the real shuttle. The Shuttles shape, with just enough weight to establish a proper center of gravity, actually glides very well. I made the ESTES version and the Shuttle would glide back beautifully. It was just a vacuum formed hollow little shape of a Shuttle, but it did glide quite well.

There's a couple of threads over on R/C Groups of people using the old Gulliows Foam Shuttle as an RC motorize and Glider plane.

Spaceguy, I'm loving the way you mimic the real mission in space as it happens.

Very nice touch on a very nice Shuttle Model!!

Within the next 3 hours, the MPLM Raffaello will be removed from the International Space Station and placed back into Atlantis' payload bay in preparation for the space shuttle program's final undocking very early Monday morning.

Makes for really good reading, this could be really nice e-book to read with the comments (like this one, mine that is) edited out.

Perhaps this was already a reference when you built your marvelous model, but its new to me and I enjoy looking at all of the panels and their instruments. Here's the URL -

Hope it helps, or at least someone enjoys as much as I have.

Thorsten's the one who designed the cockpit, although I have looked at that before. I did use many of these when I was working on the tile patterns and such: NASA Tech Home Page

I am amazed by the detail of these models, but I suppose it comes with the ability to print the parts already detailed.

Shuttle looks great.
