The last major milestone has been achieved: the Crew Hatch is DONE! I am pretty happy with the result.

Small details remain...

1. The Tunnel Hatch
2. A few more Storage items in the Aft Compartment
3. Minor tweaks to interior controls
4. Minor tweaks to the Earth Recovery Package

Should be done this weekend! Then I'll post final pictures.

Ken

It really looks fantastic, Ken. The amount of detail is dazzling.
This kit is, when made well, a real museum piece. And certainly not for the faint-hearted. To be able to grasp the complexity of this spacecraft and translate it into paper is an awesome skill.

I'm waiting until someone like Closet Astronaut decides to do it in paper in full scale. (-;

Paper? I'm thinking steel, aluminum, titanium, etc...

In that case, I think there are some nice 1/48 F-1 engines around at Jon Leslie's site. Perhaps we could do a full scale Saturn V then, too.

But even in 1:2,5 or 1:3 you could make it into a very exciting playhouse for your kids. But then in ribbed cardboard or plywood, perhaps.

Ken, I would go back and look, but with 101 pages(!) it would take some time, so I was wondering if I missed the docking probe? Didn't see it on your to do list...

The Docking Probe was done some time ago... Here is a picture from the archives. Not quite as bad as the Crew Hatch!

How did I miss that?! And yes, the hatch is a model unto itself.
A question: Was there an aerodynamic cover over the docking probe? It seems that when the launch abort tower and cover jettisoned, the airstream traveling at many multiples of Mach would travel past the DP and blow in the hatch.

The Boost Protective Cover is what covers the probe and entire capsule from aerodynamic loads at launch, when the LES jettisons, taking the BPC with it, the atmosphere is so thin that the aerodynamic loads are minimal. Maximum aerodynamic pressure referred to as "Max Q" (kind of made famous from the shuttle launches because because of the throttle down and throttle up procedure) happens relatively early in the launch.

I've build in the batteries and a switch for the LEDs, using an extra print of parts 6a and 6b to make a removable panel to hide them, now the switch and the batteries are still reachable without changing the overall looks of the model
I cound't find a switch small enough to build it in the control panel, so this will do

Billy!

Very Inventive! I cant wait to see a final photo shot looking through the side windows with the lights on! This makes me want to design up an add-on kit of the 3 sitting astronauts!!!!! Something to dream about for down the road.
