You've stated that there will be a way to remove the outer shell and what not. Does that include the hatch? (Like, it's built separately and can be taken on and off?) That'd be pretty cool. Even better would be to include basic hinges and allow it some movement!

I can tell you that you have thought about this. Yes, the hatch must be removable to allow the outer shell and crew compartment to be removed.

Not sure if I can design it so that it is hinged, but I plan to try.

Ken here is a link to the hinge on the Apollo command Module. It shows the an animation of the hinge working and has detailed view of the hinge itself.
I'm sure you have this but if not here is the link.

I didn't have this. It will come in handy when I get to that point.

Thanks for the link!

Still working on the structural parts.

The first few weeks may be a little boring for some since I am focusing mainly on the structural compartments that make up the model. This is important so that the model holds its shape, has plenty of rigidity, and that it assembles and disassembles easily for display purposes.

So, here is the outer shell of the aft compartment. You can think of this as the floor of the CM. The Crew Compartment sits on top of the rim. The first picture is up-side down. There is an inner shell that fits inside of this...

I don't think there is such a thing as "boring" Ken West design and build.
