Don't under estimate you'r talent. In the scale you work in , I couldn't do what you do. You have a real talent in taking a simple little model and turning into some thing worht looking at.

Thank you, Closet Astronaut. I appreciate that a lot. It always feels good to realise there are people liking what I make.

However, it's not so much insecurity, just more like a bit exaggerated sort of perfectionism that leads me to believe I should not enter competitions. Can't really help it. For the time being, I just enjoy showing my models here and really enjoy the responses. You all often make my day. Thanks!

Hey, you're not so bad yourself, either! (-: I still look with awe at your amazing Mercury. Firstly because you dared to try it and secondly because of the beautiful result.

Thank you sir. I have to admit though the Yamaha MT-01 I reciently built is my favorite, it's the most detailed, most intrequit model so far. After building that I feel I could build anything. And it stands for what can really be done with paper. I don't know if you've seen it. It's under "crotch rocket" in the civilian wheels cat.

I did some work today, even though it took me all afternoon there is not much to see. It's just small pieces and bits and ends.
So I 'll make it a small tutorial on how I handle those small parts. What about that?

First, the fairings around the orange part of the engine section. Those egg-shaped parts. I glue them to (orange) card and cut out the dark part at the underside. This way when glued to the hull it still gives the suggestion of being hollow fairings protecting the vents underneath.
Soyuz FG "Gagarin" 1/96-soyuz-fg-gagarin-13.jpg

Next up the mechanics of all those small vernier engines the Soyuz uses to manoeuver while on its way to space. Quite an archaic system compared to the more modern gimbal method but it works, as do the R-7 derivates for over more than 55 years.
The outer parts are attached partly at the outside and partly at the underside of the hull and have a complex shape. I do not use the glue strips Leo provides the kit with, but I put them together with edge glueing.
I use CA and carefully add a little along the edges. I use tweezers to push the lot together. It dries fast so no cramps in the process.

The inner pieces are just rectangular boxes I have cut out of aluminium coloured paper and I fill it with two layers of thick card. I glue the four sides to the card and I have a solid box.

The fins are cut and folded and I use an orange watercolour pencil to colour the cuts. I wet the edge with my finger, colour the cut and next I rub my finger along the edge to get a nice and even result.

So there. Al the other fairings along the outer hull are treated the same way, CA'ed together and edge glued to the hull.

Hopefully this was clear and maybe even useful. Next I hope to have finished all four strap-on boosters. Might take a little longer. (-;

Hello, P. K.

Interesting and pretty. The silver sharpie great idea .. clever,
I also apply in the future. Thank you.
Good progress.
I feel motivation to get 1/96 construction for me, because I, too, the rocket garden 1/96 proportion.:
Small motors még1 / 48 was a major problem, with brilliant design

Hi Merzo. When I did the 1/48 Voskhod launcher, I didn't have any problems with the engines. But then I get better when it gets smaller, isn't it.
