WIP Edu-Craft Apollo LM1:32 and Uhu's LM 1:48
Sorry, I rediscovered this site after beginning Uhu's LM and then finding & starting Edu-Crafts 1:32 LM!
Heres a comparison of the completed 1:48 Ascent Stage vs the Edu-Craft in progress. I might be off on the scaling of Uhu's, since the A4 pages were adjusted to fit my letter size ink jet printer. |

Milw, very nice work on both! I am glad you are doing this comparison, once I finish my crawler my next build will be a lunar module and I wondered which one would be better. I will follow this thread with interest.

Edu-Craft Apollo LM 1:32 and Uhu02's LM 1:48
Yes,
Nice comparison! I just ordered the Edu-Craft/David's 1:32 scale LEM, and I am looking forward to receiving it. I also have UHU02's detailed LEM downloaded, and it will be very interesting to compare the two up close in a while. It seems that Uhu02's model has a much more detailed inner structure. Yes, Uhu's is very complex and I've had to remake some of the parts several times! I've ordered tiny LEDs to put in the interior lights and the outer marker lights, probably only on the larger Edu-craft version.
I've had a couple of problems from using too-thick of photo paper (I'm using OfficeMax matte photo paper, 230 gm/10.75 mil). It's taken a lot of #11 blades to cut all the doubled parts, I'm going to try the #2 blades to see if the tip is a bit more robust. Descent stage of Uhus is nearing completion, putting together the main struts and foot pads now. I'm going to finish this one, then resume the Edu-Craft. Last edited by milw; 01-08-2015 at 07:55 PM. Very nice work, milw!
It is indeed a complex inner structure. You've done it really well. Bengt in Stockholm |

I will put more pictures in a gallery (link from my signature). Legs are done, I think all that's left is the RCS thrusters and deflectors on the descent stage. I'm going to leave this one open to show all the internals.

Uhu02's LM 1:48 Scale
Absolutely masterful, milw!
It is very interesting and instructive to keep the model open in this way, to show the complicated technical inner structure and workings of the Lunar Module. Tell me, are the four legs also foldable inwards? Bengt in Stockholm |

Thanks Bengt! It's definitely the most complicated papercraft yet for me
Yes, the design is such that the legs can be folded in. Unfortunately the glue I used is too stiff, and so the joints would break if I tried to bend them. But, since I'm planning to display on top of a mirror, I made the legs permanently deployed. cheers- Scott Last edited by milw; 01-11-2015 at 10:14 AM. Reason: typo |
