1/96 scale Atlas II

I've been working on this for the last week. Sometime back, I did a first build of this but decided to do a more detailed version with a full Centaur stage and payload. Here's what I've got!

It's a beta build, there are some things I want to fix. There's a dimensional error in the Payload shroud, the satellite isn't finished (GOES-L, if you're interested), and the more I look the more I think if I have that kind of detail in the Centaur, I need to add a removable 1/2 stage too. Anyway, here's what it looks like:

Very nice.

How would you do the removable half stage? Don't they separate separately?

Also, beautiful work on the RL-10 piping.

Thank you!

The white section at the bottom and the two outboard engines separate from the tank and the central sustainer engine as one element. I did a test of this in 1/72, but I think I'm going to give it a try here.

I'll bite again.
I notice you have great inner detail on parts like the Interstage, why no inner cones on the engines?

Also, that print, is the balloon tank a metallic paper, or just a very nice print job?

Beautiful rocket. One of my favorites and I'm a sucker for rockets with NOAA logos. I'll be a customer....

Still developing. There are a lot of small details I have yet to resolve.

That's not metallic paper, it's the art for the balloon tanks. Completely vector, BTW. I will include an option for metallic paper.

I normally just regular paper anyways, so I will just sit back and admire the nice graphics.

Looking forward to the next set of pictures.

Hi Mark, amazing work already! I love it! The RL-10s are great and I love the detailing in the plumbing on that Centaur. If the half-stage really is able to jettison, then it is really becomes dream of a model.
I love the structure on the balloon tank too and hats off to the fact you also make a non-coloured version for silver paper.
Wonderful stuff.
Where do I line up for a copy?

I find that using the printed kit part, on the silver paper, actually gives a more "realistic" scale appearance to the part.

However, I will also concede, some parts are better as a plain silver part.

Now about that payload, gotta go find some gold foil....hmmm, several candy bars use that!

The Mythbusters use the wrappers from Rollos as gold foil on their models (Adam Savage mentioned this on their moon myths episode I think).
