Wow. Very nice job on that one. What material did you use for your base?

Fine ballast for model railroads from Woodland Scenics applied over plaster of paris. Sprayed it with diluted white glue on a cheap pine base and airbrushed it with a grey/burnt umber mixture of water based paint. The mini rocks are from the garden :-)

Really appealing model!
I went a do a little research on this, and found that there were 7 missions, and even one of them was reached by Apollo 12 astronauts, and that parts of the Surveyor is at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC. Thanks for sharing! |

Nice build, I've seen this kit and have it in my stash.
I worked on the actual Surveyor missions in the '60s for the US Geological Survey, and we had a 1:4 working scale model of Surveyor in our lab that we used to position for locating fake "moon rocks" for studies that were being done at each landing sites. As I recall, only 5 of the 7 landings were successful, the other two cashed. I'm afraid my attempt at building this model would look like one of the crashed ones. Again, nice job, Swampfox |
