I think it was actually pretty limited what you could hold/do in these suits gotham. I think making a flag pole that the astrnauts could actually assemble was quite a challenge. Also the experiments that were left behind on the moon had to be carefully designed to accommodate the glove "issue".

In general the suit itself was not that flexible. In fact there needed to be a redesign for the later apollo missions in order to enable the astronauts to sit down so they could drive the lunar rover. That was why (amongst other things) the positioning of where the hoses attached changed.

Here is a link to a NASA page about the apollo suits

Some bits about the gloves

Dear all

So I know some of you like to know the "facts and figures" about a model, so each glove is made of 346 parts and weighs 130 grammes (4 and 1/2 oz).

I have taken the gloves to my office at work (where I am storing the rest of the model). I have had to be going into work for a few months now. Here is typically what I see

Life-Size Buzz and Neil (enlarged 1/4 Ken West "Apollo Astronauts on the Moon")-cor-1.jpg

Virtually nobody.

Anyway I thought I would see what the gloves looked like so put the arms, torso and gloves together.

It looks a bit out of proportion but that is because of the different proportions of the suit compared to human.

Then I decided to look at everything so far

Helmets next up on the "to make" list.

Regards

Kevin

That last pic looks very surreal!!! It looks as though it should be a 1970s Pink Floyd album cover.
