Me too.
I watched the entire Virgin Galactic livestream. Steven Colbert was funny as always...he should have hosted the entire thing. Annoyed terribly by the commentary and the studio host girl ....why can't they just let us watch and enjoy the flight? And why was Chris Hadfield there? Not that I mind, but he only said two words. lol he looked like he was asking the same question "why am I here? oh yeah...getting paid!" Too bad they had so much trouble with the live broadcast from the spaceship. What amazes me, when you saw the few views of the cabin, is that nobody looks out the windows. My face would have been glued to one window for the duration of the flight. They seem more interested in the 60 seconds of weightlessness experience. $250,000, and risking life to fly to the edge of space...for something you could experience in a swimming pool?! I was amazed at that. As I said, I would have ignored almost everything just to see the views. Still, an amazing craft...I wish I could experience it.

Well, I will probably just skip this

$100 for 2000 chances to Win Two Seats
Quote:
Just spent $100 for 2000 chances to win two seats on 2022 flight. Utility bills are going to be a little late this month....Almost spent my budget for $1000 airplane insurance that is due next month. Win Two Seats on One of the FIRST Virgin Galactic Flights to Space I'll take some photos while I'm up there. I'll be the one leaving drool marks on the window as my face will be glued to it! Mike |

While I am happy to see the return of reusable spacecraft experiments, I was not impressed with this particular flight.
The craft reached an altitude of about 56 miles / 90 kilometers, well below the altitude where solar ions striking the Earth's atmosphere produce the Aurora. No craft can maintain orbit for very long at that height due to friction with the atmosphere. I realize the FAA calls that space but ... it's not. To add further context, the X-15 reached an altitude of 354,200 feet (about 69 miles) in 1968 without modern avionics, composite materials, or engines. It makes me sad that so much knowledge was lost, and that the achievements of the really great engineers of the past go ignored. I want these people to succeed but I also want everyone to understood that they stand on the shoulders of giants. As for looking out the windows, while I do not know the specifications of the craft, it must pull some gs during the burn. Even an athlete would struggle to move around at 3 times gravity. They were probably too weak to look out the windows during the burn and too tired to look out immediately afterward. Lifting that much weight is exhausting. Anyway, that is my conjecture. I sorta feel sour grapes because as a kid, I was told I would be living on the moon with androids and spaceships by now. *laughs* |
