Mars 2020
Over the past year, I have been building up the various elements of the Mars 2020 mission in paper.
Atlas V 541 Launch Vehicle Kit: AXM Scale: 1:96 Ingenuity Mars Helicopter Kit: Zach's Papersat Designs (Reduce from 1:4) Scale: 1:12 Perseverance Mars Rover (In progress, about 75% complete) Kit: Retired For Now's Curiosity plus some heavy scratchbuilding. Scale: 1:12 |

Nice work on the wiring for the rover. These look great.

It's out of focus, but I hope the Christmas tree in the background has card models on it.

A really nice "set" of models. I particularly liked the enhanced curiosity rover. The treads on the wheels look great Dyna-Soar. Quick question, how did you make the spokes of the wheels strong enough to support the weight of the model (the curved shape makes me think paper spokes would just collapse)?
Regards Kevin

The wheel treads are actually vacu-formed plastic and for the spokes I laminated cardstock to manila file- folder type material and then coated that in Cyanoacrylate super glue. |

I love the comparison between the two generations of Atlas vehicles. It really shows how far that design developed. The shiny silver paper looks great too. I'd love to find something like that.

Here is the finished Perseverance rover. I also did a comparison shot of the two Mars 2020 vehicles with my Viking, Pathfinder, and Sojourner, which are also Retired-For-Now designs.
