Atlas Centaur 1/96th by Mark Cable

All,

I'm having a blast (yuck, yuck) converting some paper models to flying model rockets. Here is the Mark Cable Design Atlas Centaur built "from the Ecards download" with a couple of balsa bulkheads, a launch lug from rolled paper and clear plastic fins for stability. Used my own homemade small "A" size engines ala Estes engines and while not as powerful, it made for a realistic and cool flight. You can actually watch it and it's not a blur or a dot. Doesn't fly as fast as the store bought stuff. Lift off is pretty realistic (read not instantaneous). Only weighs a tad over an ounce. Really satisfying. I'll be trying more of these really soon.

Scale paper model rockets rock...Dan

Hi Mark!

I've just downloaded several more of your designs and they will all make great flying models with some adjustments. I also want to make some neat static examples as the fit is great and the detail is just right. Great artistry too.

Can't wait for more...thanks for producing these.

Here is the incredibly done video of the flights (ha, ha). You may get a kick out of them. Your model is in the first 4 minutes or so if you can stand our video that long!

That was pretty cool looking. Stood up pretty well to the crash landing.

Japanese H-IIA Payload Rocket

Thanks All!

Mark: I'm glad your wife got a kick out the video. We had so much fun too.

Duke: Funny you should ask! I made the free download from Canon representing a Japanese rocket. Flew it today on a B6-4 Estes engine and it worked really well. My trash bag parachute needs some help but it's all ready for another flight if the weather would cooperate up here in rainy Tacoma.

Anyway, the model went together well. It's simple but lots of little steps. You end up with a neat model, though, and it looks like the real thing as far as I'm concerned. Pretty darn nice.

Here is a link to a short flight video. Had a fun day.

Cool!

Watched the flight!

Looked like a great flight. Maybe try a C6-3. You can get some more sky and the chute time would be a little longer. Your chute size looks good....just need some more time to slow the mass.

Keep it up...We want more!!! lol
