Jupiter AM-18
On May 28, 1959, Miss Baker, a squirrel monkey, along with female rhesus macaque Able were launched into space on board Jupiter AM-18.
Both survived, but Able died four days alter the flight from cardiac fibrillation in reaction to anesthesia to remove electrodes. The model of Jupiter AM-18, designed by Erik te Groen, was a pleasure to build. I added the four little antennas (made out of stretched plastic sprue bits) and made a stand with the June 15, 1959, cover of the "LIFE" Magazine. |

Like I said, it was a pleasure to build this kit. The fit was perfect, I didn't have to trim a single part.
