I think why the car body looks odd is that the front windows are too deep, they need to be shallower. A strip of red along the bottom would fix the issue.

Your first photo works beautifully. Only imagine it from the perspective of a 6 year old on the train platform. In the small midWestern town I grew up on, this is the locomotive that used to bring the passenger train with my visiting relatives on it. We would go down to meet the train, which we would first see as the headlight swung back and forth, far down the track, and then it would whoosh into the station. I was very impressed - the huge red curved nose, the glowing numerals, and the magnificent high cab are all lively memories.

About the size of the windows: it must be a matter of perspective. Remember, all real life pictures are taken from a height of no more than 5 feet - add that to the fact that the windows slope back seriously, and one gets the impression that they are much narrower than they really are.
I selected a few pictures on Google images and used my slide rule. The ratio height:width works out at 1 : 2.65, give or take 0.01 or 0.02. That is exactly the ratio of the windows in the model!

Big Nose
Thank you all and herewith just a short peek into the future: I would say nothing wrong with the windows. And yes, the nose is impressive - thank you for your reflections, Papermodelfan !

OMG, or as they say in the UK: good heavens! Absolutely gorgeous! And as someone said here earlier: designer Cor did a great job!
By the way: not slide rule, but calipers? slide gauge?! I studied English, but never same across the technical terms...
