Santa Fe Sleeper Pine Grove
My current build is almost finished, final paint touchups and varnishing in progress, so I'd like to announce a follow-up to my F7A build completed late last year, which is the test-build of PaperTrade's Santa Fe Sleeper Pine Grove.
Like the F7A, the scale of the model is O, and together with the F7B which I intend to build as well in the near future, it will certainly turn out into an entire train. The model sheets have been printed, sprayed with satin varnish and the building instructions studied. Departing in a few days time . Cheers, Erik Last edited by rickstef; 04-12-2020 at 03:51 PM. |

I do hope you meant "Pine Grove" (two words) and not "Pinegrove" (single word).

Yep, that's what I meant. Rest assured, the model is correct. Thanks for the help, Rickstef.

It will look great behind that Warbonnet F7A.

Preparing the wheels
Alright gents, thanks for your kind attention! The build has started in the mean time. Although not the most exciting parts of the model, they're nevertheless quite interesting: The trucks.
First, the wheels. When cutting out the parts my eye fell on the circle template on my desk and a very simple but effective idea was born. As it turned out the circle with diameter 19mm saved me a lot of time and the wheels were made in no-time. I hope the pictures speak for themselves. Making the axles was like F16A sidewinder revisited and I used Yoav's trick to wet the paper a bit which made it so much easier to roll the tubes. Then I rolled 7.5cm of regular printing paper into a tight tube and inserted it as core for each axle. Cutting the holes through the flanges went very easy by using a hole cutter (there must be a better word for such a useful tool) and they fit fine on the axles. Dry-fit so not glued yet. Next will be the trucks themselves, which requires a bit of picture studying in advance. Regards, Erik |

Hi Erik, thanks for the tip on wheels and the circle template, must try that, making wheels can be the most difficult job on a loco or carriage, spoked wheels are 100 times worse.

It's a leather hole punch, used for putting holes in leather mostly, belts etc. One of my favourite and most used tools. Great for punching holes but also handy for making very small circles (or somewhat large rivets). |

Or perhaps 'revolver punch'.
