Central Pacific n°60 "Jupiter" 1/25

Hello ladies and gentlemen, it's been a while since I started a topic on this forum... a huge while even, if I'm not mistaken it's about 5 years ago with my build of Modelik's Cn2t (a project that I have promised myself to finish next).

Anyway, I've had the Jupiter in my stash for a couple of years, and since discovering Modelperry's buildlog of this machine I finally grew the ..lls to start it.

The result may not as good as that of other builders, but since my eyes are getting worse I have learned to accept my limits.

PART I : The Frame

The start... nothing special there, the only difference seem to be that the thicker (2mm) parts are now included in the lc set.

On with the springs :

The axis something that tend to not work very well for me... this time however, I took my time and I'm satisfied with them :

The front support for the kettle went to together without any problems, fit was exellent :

The next part of the frame was a bit of a mistery for me (even though I'm am (actually : WAS) a shuntingdriver myself, I have no idea what these things are supposed to be :

But we got them in there :

The frame resting on my mug... you can see the type of loc I used to drive till a couple of months ago

PART II : The Wheels

Nothing much to say about them, except that they went together like a charm :

Even without a jig :

And finally with some paint on them :

I have no picture of it, but for the rim of the wheels I have used the markers I have fallen in love with : Motow acrylic markers.
In this case it's marker nr 703.103 : Liquid Chrome 4mm.

PART III : The Bogie

From this point in the build I tried to take a picture of the collection of parts to be used :

And of the diagram :

The construction went better than I antecipated to be honest :

And with some paint on it (no Molotow black at that point yet, only Humbrol)

PART IV : The Pistons

The parts to be used, but no diagram (already forgot to take that picture I think)... lol :

I discovered that if I put another 1mm layer inbetween those discs, they matched the mantel that goes around them :

Multiplied by 2 equals :

Thank you sir, I'm not done posting yet though (just went to the n8shop for an extra bottle ).
You see, I am already a bit further in the build than this, and in a couple of minutes I will continue my log ...

PART V : Revenge of the Wheels

Yes, indeed more wheels, another four to be exact, and this time... they didn't go together like a charm. The problem with these lies both with me, and with the diagrams.
You see, I don't know a word of Polish (well actually it turns out that our dialect word for a spring is Polish), and at that moment I didn't find the diagrams for those pesky four little buggers (only after I finished my attempt I found a crosssection in the diagrams, it was because it was enlarged that I didn't recognize it as those wheels).

So ...

The parts :

And improvising them together ... :

I know now that they are NOT correct, but it's too late to brake them apart and redo them, they'll have to do... :

PART VI : Boxes

Well, I call them "boxes" since they look like boxes and I have absolutely no idea what they actually are :

And the parts to make them :

And with some paint on it (Humbrol 54) :

Installed on the chassis together with the pistons... note the Liquid Chrome on those little bugger :

PART VI : Let's do the Locomotion

Too bad we'll have to do it without Little Eve, Cher or Kylie Minogue... but with diagrams, parts and logics (a good thing the first shunting engine I drove still had this kind of drivetrain).

At this moment, it was also time to add the first blue parts to the frame :

Still satisfied at this stage of the build :

Is it all correct ? Probably not, but it LOOKS ok (kind of), so to me it IS ok.

Before I lost progress on the log I had posted some pictures and text on the kettle and furnace... due to whine I don't recall the text, but I will give you the pictures :

The diagrams of the kettle :

Parts for the internal structure :

... glued together :

Sheeting them with the skins :

Mind you ; I don't hammer them in place, I just use the small hammer as a weight on the parts while drying.

You may have noticed that there are little grey spots on some of the parts... these are the spots where bolts are supposed to be added... I don't have pictures of all those spots of course, and honestly not ALL spots are going to be saturated with a bolt (honestly some are way too close to eachother to look good when bolted)...other spots will be left unbolted simply because the fit is way too tight to fit them in.
