For the round shape at the front and back of it, decided to use paper clay. Don’t know how it can be. I’ll give it a try.
process ahead: while(until_it_looks_good){ ApplyPrimer(); SandCarefully(); // 220, 400, 800 FillTheGaps(); // paper clay } Wish me luck. Last edited by Joon Kwon; 06-25-2022 at 06:27 PM. |

I love watching experiments like this. I probably would have shaped and sanded pieces of balsa. But your method is better . . . . incorporating paper into the process. I have never attempted anything with “paper clay”. It's fun to watch and learn. Looks like the pieces in the final two photos are ready for paint and “weathering”.

If I understand correctly, the first six photos show the first version. Then the last eight photos show the second “improved” version?
In the images, they both look perfect. This level of dedication inspires me to work harder. Mike |

It's been very busy and now I'm returning to paper modeling "at Christmas Day"
Sometime late October, sanded the Tender Front and Back a bit more. Today ('22 Christmas), made the support for the tender. Installed some magnets to make the tender wheel part detachable. Fit check on the tender |

Interesting method to create these compound curves. Is it heavy and would this work for aircraft noses?
For what it's worth, my current hack for this is to carve and sand a sandwich of 1.5 mm mountboard layers. But that is a much less exact result that has to be constantly checked against a drawing or photo to get the profile correct.
