Made the rails and clips
Applied black as the base paint. And found the wood plate at HomeDepot. (Red Oak) Not in size yet and not perfectly flat. Need to cut into the size and flatten it. |

Started the board flattening using hand planer.
Long process ahead: A. Slab flattening using hand planer, B. Sanding, C. Apple Tung Oil and D. Let it dry for a while In the mean time, did a quick fit check with the loco. Length: 36.5 inch Good amount of gap at the front and back. Width: 5 inch The size of the base is good. Coming back to hand planning. Last edited by Joon Kwon; 03-11-2023 at 02:07 AM. |

Definitely worth the extra work to create a nice base for this project.

Yes, Mike,
I’m trying to do it right for Ty2. I think the base of my Py27 could be better than what it is. Before and after of hand planning and sanding. As you can see, the right hand side was flatten, shaving about 2mm at both sides. Before applying Tung Oil, applied masking tape where the thin wood strip will be bonded. After first Tung Oil coat, it starts to show the color I was looking for. |

Hi Mike,
Thanks for comment. Coming back to Paper Modeling (from woodworking) Attached the rail to the base. Add clips to the rail carefully. Attach rail using the jig that keeps the rails in position (center of the base) Adding the rail connector Completed Took some pictures with the locomotive. Check and confirm the locomotive is well sitting at the center of the base. |

Attached magnets to hold the model in place on the base
And following picture shows the maximum side tilt angle that magnet can hold the tender. Moving on, attaching the ballast grain on the base |

The magnets appear in the photos to be very small (cube shaped).
Where do you purchase them? I assume you attach them with CA glue? Mike |
