After finishing the Micro version of this famous locomotive, why not have a go at the O-gauge model i published a few years ago?! See my website!

Locomotive chassis completed and footplate glued on.
I strengthened the bottom of the chassis with extra card (first photo, coloured black) and reinforced the rear (first photo, shown before trimming). I added a length of card shim along one side so that the wheels will sit square. The second photo shows the footplate after curving the front. The third photo shows the A and B bulkheads glued to the footplate. As they are printed, they're too thin/bendy to use as proper bulkheads to which the boiler casing must be attached to; so I strengthened each one by gluing on a piece of 1mm card cut to the same profile and I used sections of 1mm card butted up against each side of the bulkheads where they join onto the footplate - these are now rigid enough to accept the boiler casing. The C bulkhead is not attached yet as I am attempting to add some pipework detailing from copper and brass wire - to mimic the actual cabin (fourth photo). I will also add two seats. |

This will do.... I added a door for the furnace from a piece of round tubing, squeezed to get the right shape .....

Forming the boiler casing using a wooden stick over foam...... It should be slightly conical......

Boiler casing now attached to footplate. I wasn't looking forward to this step, but it seems to have gone okay.
First I applied UHU clear glue to the B and C bulkheads and held the casing in place. The lower edge of each side of the casing was then glued to the footplate by applying dilute PVA along the length..... I used two straight-edged pieces of plastic to keep the casing in place while the PVA dried. Photo 1 is me applying some dark blue along the running boards/footplate. In photo 2, I apply a lighter blue on the white leading edge, upon which the front section is to be attached - a trial fit showed a portion of the white band would otherwise be exposed. Photo 3 shows I've managed to obtain the slightly conical profile from back to front. |

As I've done some cabin detailing, I thought I'd cut the cab windows out to make it more realistic and enable viewing of the inside...... After cutting and touching in, the cabin can be formed/curved to fit......
