1/200 L.N.E.R 'Pacific' A4 Class Locomotive & Tender (New Micromodels)

This is my first Micromodels build. The original was printed in 1948 - this is a modern reprint
The 6-card kit contains two trains, as shown in Photo 1. The three cards I'm using are shown in Photo 3.

I've started with the Tender. The cut edges and reverse faces are coloured-in with marker pens. The top edge of the left and right sides was gently rounded/folded inwards with flat-nose pliers, to mimic the real tender. Cutting/scoring/folding gets you to the basic shape.

Great looking classic. You're off to a great start.

The inner liner is printed with an image of coal, but I decided to add some scenic scale coal..... This adds a bit of weight and rigidity, as it is held in place with PVA glue. I've also added handrails, made from copper fusewire (stretched). The handrails would normally be body-coloured, but I might leave them as I quite like the contrast......

I've only built a couple of Micromodels but they have a definite charm.

I've only built a couple of Micromodels but they have a definite charm and are a fun distraction from more complex kits. Your coal and handrails add a nice detail to the kit. Sorry for the double post, the editor seemed to have a glitch.

I'm grateful to Doug for information on the scales used by Micromodels. I decided to check this based on the length of the locomotive and tender being 21.34m (70ft)...... Photo below shows the printed length being 11cm (buffer-to-buffer); this equates to 1/194.

Talking of buffers, I made these up by applying some aluminium Bare Metal Foil (self adhesive) to scrap card then punched out two circles with my leather/card punch. These were glued to short lengths of plastic rod. All that's required is a bit of paint to touch them in (after attaching to the rear buffer plate and front chassis).

Chassis made up - decided to make the locomotive and tender as separate models ..... I found that the assembled (single) unit wasn't quite square and straight, so splitting the chassis makes rectification easier ......
