Rocket

I think this only the second time I've ventured into Railways.

You will note that it is quite a basic model and at 9 inches tall, one of the biggest.

I usually keep away from kits that say "Build your Own...." but this one scratched a couple of my itches.

I'm interested in vintage steam things like Rocket and fairground attractions
I was also looking for something on a big scale - my earlier model is quite small (More in a different thread soon). Finally I have been watching a television "behind the scenes" series at Hornby models - one of the biggest makers of model trains.

The parts fit is good and the instructions are very clear and I must admit that I like the size. It is a good companion for my Micromodel version of the train.

BTW does anyone know if other trains from this period (the Rainhill trains and Lion) etc?

So, here it is. It's nothing special but I'm happy with the finished article

Cheers
Mike

I can't say it would enlarge well, but there is always the Ray Morris Lion

The Ray Morris "Lion" ,in real life, was actually used in the film "The Titfield Thunderbolt"

She's built up well

I think a Flying Scotsman was published in the series too

Thanks for the links.

VK I've downloaded Lion. I'd forgotten Ray. He used to come to the model shows. He had a camper van and stayed overnight. I have a feeling that he moved to the USA about 20 years ago, I hope it wasn't something I'd said ;-))

The other downloadable model is Evening star

I want to stick with the "first generation " of trains but I have a soft spot for Evening Star - such an evocative name for the last steamer made in the UK and it would provide a nice bookend for a small "collection" So thanks for mentioning it Tim,

Cheers
Mike

Ray is still in the UK. The camper is now with his son as Ray has a few health problems that have restricted his ability to travel. His locomotives are a pure delight. Along with the Lion there is a tender plus, if memory serves, a period coach.
