Locomotive "Twin Sisters", scale 1:48, design by Lachezar

Hello,
after my period of shipbuilding, it's time again for my old love - steam locomotives. I came across an interesting early project by Robert Stevenson. This is his locomotive with the exotic name "Twin Sisters". Some of its design features and its interesting appearance, two steam boilers, two chimneys, working with coke instead of coal, etc. motivated me to try to recreate it on paper.
Again, I will work in my favorite scale of 1:48. I start with the manufacture of the supporting frame and wheels, which according to the source were wooden.
I continue with photos of the model.

Even with being interested in the early rail era for several decades I had to go look up this one.

Twin Sisters (locomotive - Wikipedia)

Hmm, interesting about that preheating,

Quote:
Water was supplied pre-heated by large 'railway kettles' at stations alongside the track.[16] This was then carried in a wooden barrel on the engine's tender and supplied to the boiler by a pump cylinder driven from the engine crosshead.
Also found from May 2020 on a channel I'm already subscribed to,

Hello,
I continue with steam boilers. Back in 1828, to reduce the smoke from steam engines, Stevenson used coke in his locomotive for fuel. This necessitated the use of two boilers and, accordingly, two chimneys.
Here are a few photos of the model.

Hello,
next comes the construction of the steam engines and the locomotive will be almost ready.
In my next post I will show what else the locomotive needs to be completely ready to hit the road.
And now for the pictures.

Hello Lachezar,
Good to see you back . . . creating another scratch build railway piece.
This is a rare vehicle. I had never heard of it.
I like the appearance of the twin boilers. Outstanding work.
Mike

Great model, weird concept. Presumably it required two firemen, one at each end. The valve gear linkage is also quite unique.

Hello friends,
the fact that Mike and AB, two luminaries in cardboard modeling, liked my model makes me happy. I proudly continue to show what I have achieved.
According to the existing history, Stevenson initially tried with only one boiler. To achieve a greater flow of steam, it was necessary to install another one. This required fuel to be supplied from both sides and, accordingly, two auxiliary cars on both sides of the locomotive. So, I had to make two auxiliary cars for fuel and water.
Here are some pictures.

Hello,
Sivi, thanks for the logical reasoning in your comment.
And now I'm showing the final photoshoot of the finished model.

Superb scratch building. I get a lot of inspiration from this kind or work.
I see this build report only began yesterday. But the project must have required more time than that. How long did it take from start to finish?
