I'm sooo looking forward to getting my hands on this kit. I'll be getting hold of metallic card and shuffling down to my local printers to get the full size version printed. *rubs hands together* Cudos and thanks to all involved in this project.

The original kit shows a black nose, but the AA flagships originally had a red nose. So I’m trying to modify the nose cone accordingly to get a close resemblance to that. It won't be an exact replica of the Flagship nose, but I hope it works.

Don't worry
Quick answers:

1- Yes. It will be available in the near future. No date of release yet, but definitely this year.
2- The idea is to release it through this same forum in our downlads section. It will be free

Do I understand corectly that there will be two versions, the printed texture version like Mr. Pirling is building and an untextured one for aluminized paper which, I believe, Billy is going to tackle?

First the TriMotor, then this, and the Hobbit all in one year! Be still my heart!

Chuck: Yup, Ruben mentions it in the first post (buried down a ways admittedly). I do believe I saw a mention later in the thread about Billy tackling the silver paper version - a job right up his alley!

with red and blue trimmings.

The first batch of DC-3s built by Douglas in 1935 was directly sold to
American Airlines, so the AA livery is representative of the original
colors of the first DC-3s in service in the world.

There have been no talks yet about painting other liveries. And because
of its size (the he kit has a lot of parts) designing other liveries is a
long and difficult work. Is not impossible, but it is a long process.

That’s why this new digital version of the Alan Rose DC-3 will be
a copy of the original book, respecting the colors provided with it.
It will be an AA airplane in natural aluminum finish.

To solve the problem of the silver printing, there will be two options:
one artwork will be designed to be printed on metallic paper.
And another option will simulate the natural aluminum skin
with grey gradients. Hopefully this way we can get a decent
substitute for the original silver parts of the book.

Hello,

As cMags already answered, the original idea was to make two versions: one with only lines to be printed on silver, and one with gradients to be printed on white paper.

However, to avoid confusions and page duplicates I think only one version would be fine.

You can see Adolf is building the gradients version using white paper, and his model is looking fine. Billy is building his version on silver paper using exactly the same files, and the result is also great.

Billy said that the gradients add even more depth when using the silver paper. So now the decision is just to make only one version that serves both techniques.

My previous statement (quoted by cMags above) was made at a moment when I was just beginning and I was considering to take a similar approach to the Tri-Motor. When working with the Ford Tri-motor I produced two different versions, because I used grey lines for the panels, corrugations and rivets that would get completely lost if printed on silver; hence the need to add a "black-lines" option to be used on silver paper. But since the panels of the DC-3 are marked with black lines they won't get lost on silver paper

By the way...

All parts have been digitally restored.

No parts left to work with.

I guess it is time now to start editing the instructions booklet while Billy and Adolf advance in their beta builds.

See you soon!

Here's my update; I finished the wing, it looks very good , the Chromolux board with the Digital ground ( and a layer of gloss- varnish) is working out well. the board is thicker than a normal model (300grm) but just fine for this big baby.
One thing; I have to be very careful with the glue I'm using; Uhu-gel, it dissolves the printing when it's in a place where it shouldn't be.
As you can see it is already occupying my workspace,,
This kit has definitely a triple B status; BIG, BOLD & BEAUTIFUL
Ruben just send me the final parts... Work to do...
