Today, some Me-109 and 3 Fokker D.VII.
The first 2 are germans:

Next are 3 finnish Me-109 G.
First one is green, 1944, second has a german camo, 1944, and the third one is from 1948, with a sharkmouth .

The recolors look great. Have you built any of them? I know I built the 109 back in the day, but I think I had trouble with the Fokker.

The 109 are not yet buid (i have tons to made plus tons of figurines and tons of plastic models )

That is very nice work! I did something similar with a D.VII to make it look like Ernst Udet's plane ('Lo!' on the sides and 'Du doch nicht!' on the tail plane).
A technical question: I find it quite hard to redraw Zio's panel lines in his characteristic way with fake depth-effect. How do you do that? Or do you work around them?

Using only GIMP, i work with many layers (sometimes, more of 10...), generally one color on a layer.
Copying what i want from the original (underwings...) to a new layer, coloring it using the numerous tools of GIMP.

For panel lines, just one line in the same color, slightly lightened, and one adjacent, slightly darkened, using very transparent layer to guide me.
Markings are on one or two layers, weathering and shading work on another...
When the work is done, i export in jpg, then i use Format Factory (a freeware) to export this jpg in pdf (GIMP can do it too, but the file is several Mo, when FormatFactory dot it in less than 1MO).


From one to several hours of work give me a file that, one day (...), will be printed and buit (maybe).
Kidding: i build some of them and my showcases are full of paper and plastic models !

I still use Photoshop on an older non-upgraded MacbookPro. But I see what you are doing. That last image you included shows the details very well. and I think I can replicate that trick in PS too. Thanks for the information!
By the way, I really do think Zio's creations are a work of art in themselves. Especially the older models look like they were hand coloured. And the way he uses light and shadows on the surfaces is wonderful.
