Hull start
The usual starting point the formers are are a pretty slack fit to allow for some last minute adjustments. The bow former is left off for now until the spine at the bow gets a coat of superglue and then the first former which is always prone to damage around this time. The formers are 140 gsm card glued to cardstock using a Pritt Stick which worked very successfully building Tarawa. Formers were glued to the keel plate using PVA glue.
Weighting the frame down will be a bit tricky as the deck slopes bow and stern with a bit of luck it should be ok. So far so good ! Thanks for the kind words. NOBI I am not that good with the rendering in Meta, the decks were redrawn in Photoshop as the blueprints I used were not that clear with the main features such as deckhouses and gun positions aligned using the boolean routines supplied. It also covers up any odd mistakes I might have made. barry |

looks cool , Barry, I am envious of your cad experience I hope I can learn it someday, still building by hand. (converting to digital image for editing, coloring, ect)

Barry, first of all, your skills with rendering in your CAD program are incredible. I am awestruck and forced to read my manual for my own (pricey) CAD system in order to attempt to keep up. In the second place, how did they build this out of iron (joke, funny to me)? I also rework everything in PSP after laying it out in CAD so no loss there, mate.
Good luck with this wonderful ship. Carl |

Decks
Not stuck down but they seem to fit so far. I need to trim the stern spine by about 2mm to be right, not so good really. The deck is reinforced with card comes out at about .75 mm.
It is beginning to look look like the classic RN destroyer shape The size is roughly halfway between a Spruance and a Gearing. I am always glad to get this bit out of the way especially if the formers line up with the deck edges. The underwater section should hold the ship straight without doing the banana impression. Has anyone got a sample of crosshatching suitable for the steel plate around the anchor winches. Carl thanks for the kind words. Birder it ain't that difficult or I would not be able to do it. |
