F212 GNEISENAU - ex HMS TICKHAM, ex HMS OAKLEY II ...

Hello gentlemen,

After the beginning of the year 2011 a new project grew up on my cardboard shipyard. I have a faible for the first units of the German Bundesmarine. We start aft 1956 with 7 frigates, sloops built and under service by the Royal Navy.
My choice is the GNEISENAU, a British Hunt II type, after the great conversion in 1964. She was used as an artillery training vessel. To give you an impression I attach a picture how she looks in 1961...

Sorry for unconvenience; one of the staff should be permitted to kick this thread ...

I deleted the duplicate thread Wilfried.
I look forward to seeing your project on these little escorts. I sailed in DDEs for many years and thoroughly enjoyed myself (perhaps too much).

HMS COWDRY Hunt Class Type II

This is one of the type of DDE I sailed on
HMCS SASKATCHEWAN (MacKenzie Class)

Hot Dog! I look forward to your build Wilfried, I have the same Hunt II DDE from GreMir in 1/200 in my stash waiting to be added to the builders dock. Your thread should be informative and interesting to those ends.

Hello gentlemen,

so, then let's start again. First I have to thank B-Manic, who put this thread into the right direction.
Pics of the real thing are always pepper and salt into the menu - so I start with F212 as she looks in 1961 and then in 1962 arriving in Wilhelmshaven ... and another pic from 1962 before the great reconstruction into the version I would like to design ...

... the GNEISENAU on duty as training vessel for the German Navy; as you can see are all the weapons used by the Navy of that time aboard the ship. The french built 100 mm double purpose single gun L/55 Creusot-Loire; and one 40 mm Breda/Bofors twin and 2 Breda/Bofors single guns - covered by canvas. All naval units at that time are equipped with one or more of each ... let me see, what I have to realize this project. A shipyard drawing where the weapons are situated and a small drawing out of a book about the German Navy - and a cap of pics... I think this should be enough for me ...

With lovely greetings
the Wilfried

Cool project Wilfried! And that photo of B-Manic's of the bow nosing into the ocean swell puts things in perspective, will follow your progress with interest

This will be a good model. Sorry for the silly question of what scale are going to design this ship.
