HI,

Well, I found a picture and have decided to design an ironclad loosely from it.....this ironclad would have been a mass production design that could have been constructed easily and with less resources, but would have packed a punch!

Specifications:

Length: 100' (100' 6" including the ram)
Width: 30'
Height: 14'6" (excluding smokestack)
Draft: 7'
Armorment: 4 Canon (2 - 11" rifled pivoting broadside, 2 - 11" rifled pivoting fore/aft)
Armor: 2' 6" (6" iron - 3/2" crossed plate, 2' oak beam)

Here is a first look pic! Comments and suggestions are welcome since.....I'm juz makin this up as I go along!

Hi,

Yep, we will see if I can make it work.....I have modified the bottom hull to flat side because of how short the ship is to make the math work for bouyancy. It now draws 7'6" water meaning it would float like the CSS Virginia, only the top 7' of the casemate and 1' of the wash boards would be above water. The ship when not in battle could lighten it's ballast to raise the decks out of the water.

Ok, added some shutters (What would be everyones choice about them.....should they pivot up or down as I have them?), pilot house, and GUNS!.....the two broadside guns would not have been on the same axis, one will be in front of the smokestack and one behind, they can pivot and be run out either side to complete a full 4 canon broadside when needed but when this was used all none essential personnel would have to run to the other side of the ship to counter balance! And, speaking of guns well something happened in the building, but now the broadside canon are 12" rifled!!!!! OMG
