Soviet battleship October Revolution - 1/300 Maly Modelarz

Speaking of those older kits from Maly with the bad paper...here's one I built about 2 years ago, the 1/300 kit of the battleship "October Revolution" (originally named Gangut). A very odd and ungainly ship. I waterlined it, as you see. I'm fairly pleased with how it came out, given the challenges of the kit, except that paper was just about IMPOSSIBLE to roll into anything resembling cylindrical gun barrels. In hindsight, I should have used just about anything else instead.

Despite your difficulties with the paper, it looks as though you did a great job with the ship. And "ungainly" does not go near describing that forward funnel.

Thanks guys! Yes, this one was a real struggle, but I was determined to see it through. A chance to do an unusual subject like this doesn't come along everyday!

Paul - taking into account that this model was edited some 25 years ago I think you have really made a good job!

BTW. What is this blue flag on the bow? Soviet jack looks differently!

All the best,
Andrzej

Hi Andrzej - thanks! Re: flag at bow: that's a good question! The flag is a blue field with a red star at the center, with six white stripes radiating out from the star Union-Jack style. Came with the kit...I assumed it was some older Soviet jack or ensign?

I had a copy of this and did not even think about trying to build. You did a great job w/a very poor printed and card that looked to be made @ the turn of the Century.
